Daniel Brandes is a composer and pianist who lives and works in Victoria, British Columbia. As a musician, his work explores vulnerability and new ways imagining community. Since 2012, he has been an active member of the Wandelwesier experimental music community. Daniel’s work has been performed in Canada, the US, and Europe by: the Quatuor Bozzini, the Wandelweiser Composers Ensemble, Toronto’s Bespoken, Antoine Beuger, Odeya Nini, Leo Svirsky, Andrea Young, and others. In 2012, Daniel and his wife Laura launched A Place to Listen, a monthly concert series that celebrates the music of the Wandelweiser community, as well as the work of many other composers whose music invites performers and listeners into an experience of immersed listening. Daniel also works as an outreach educator at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, with support from the Canadian Music Centre and BC Arts Council. Through the Composer in the Classroom initiative, Daniel travels around the greater Victoria region introducing middle- and high-school students to creative music practices.
